Professional Genealogical Services

My name is Martha Garrett, and I am a professional genealogist. Through my company, Swedish Homecoming, I carry out commissioned studies on Swedish and Swedish-American families and produce in-depth, documented family histories that emphasize historical context.

In 2017 I was awarded the Certified Genealogist® credential from the Board for Certification of Genealogists® in Washington, D.C., and was consequently the only genealogist with this credential in any Scandinavian country. In 2022 I decided not to apply for recertification, but I am glad to have gone through the original certification process, which taught me a great deal.

Although many other professional genealogists focus on Sweden and Swedish America, I bring a unique combination of advantages to the work. I hold a doctoral degree and have decades of research experience, I am multilingual but have English as my mother tongue, and I live in Sweden, close to resources that are not available online.

The Meaning of Homecoming

Homecoming is an important American tradition. It is when Americans go back to a school, church, or town to re-establish ties with the people with whom they have studied, worshiped, or shared a community.

But homecoming can also mean something else, the discovery of ancestral roots. For Americans of Swedish origin, this kind of homecoming does not necessarily involve traveling to Sweden. Instead, Swedish Americans can make the connection with their ancestors by learning the histories of their families.

If you want to connect with your Swedish heritage in this way, I may be able to help you.
